World Languages Highlights and Special Programs

  • Spanish for Natives Speakers
    The World Language Department currently offers four levels of French, Italian and Spanish and two levels of Spanish for the Native Speaker. Spanish for Native Speaker I and Spanish for Native Speaker II AP.
    These courses offer Spanish-speaking students opportunities to study Spanish formally in the same way that native-English-speaking students study English language arts. All world language courses are designed to meet the requirements of the New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards.

    World Language Honor Society
    At PVHS there are three World Languages Honor Societies. The purpose of these organizations is to stimulate interest in the study of the language, to give recognition to scholarship achievement in French , Italian and Spanish, and to promote an understanding and appreciation of their cultures and civilizations.

    The National Italian Exam (March)
    Students in all levels of Italian are given the opportunity to compete with students from other states.

    The Spanish National Exam (March - April)
    Students in all levels of Spanish are given the opportunity to compete with students from other states.

    The French National Contest (February - March)
    Students in all levels of French are given the opportunity to compete with students from other states.
