English Highlights and Special Programs

  • The Literary Club holds monthly meetings both in and out of school. The Woodland Park Public Library is often a gracious host for their meetings.  The group, under the direction of adviser Mrs. Megan Miele and club officers,  hosts a Coffee House each Spring where invited faculty gather with students , parents and friends to read some of their favorite pieces of verse. Proceeds from this event help fund the annual poetry contest held in May of each year. The group also attends local poetry readings at colleges and bookstores, as well as comedy nights and poetry writing/game nights.

PV’s literary magazine Images is produced each spring by the Editing and Publishing class. Student poets, photographers and other print artists submit their work for consideration. The Editing and Publishing class then assembles and designs the magazine under the direction of the lit club advisors and their teacher Mrs. Darcy Hall.

The Middle College Program, sponsored by Fairleigh Dickinson University, gives our students the opportunity to earn college credit for their work in high school. English III Honors and Advanced Placement English Honors are approved 3 credit courses taught by PV faculty.  Students who successfully meet all the criteria can earn up to 12 college credits before they graduate.
