Passaic Valley Regional High School

Passaic Valley Regional High School has been serving the communities of Little Falls, Totowa and Woodland Park since 1940. Members of the Board of Education represent these three communities and are dedicated to upholding high standards for academics, athletics and student activity traditions. The unique combination of programs and traditions develop our students into well-prepared high school graduates with a variety of post secondary college and career choices.

The administration and staff of Passaic Valley is committed to increasing the academic rigor of our core courses and to offer a variety of new engaging electives. This provides our student body more opportunities to identify their unique talents and strengths as they evolve into responsible adults, prepared for college, career employment and leadership roles in the 21st century.

Passaic Valley Regional High School offers Advanced Placement Courses in all core educational areas. College credits can be earned through dual enrollment courses offered through our partnerships with Fairleigh Dickenson University and Passaic County Community College. We have a partnership with Kean University and also belong to the Statewide Professional Development Network through William Paterson University, as well as continuing our strong ties with the Montclair State University Center for Renewal. All of these higher education relationships provide our teachers with staff development and research support.

Our Humanities Department recently opened a Writing Lab to support students. Teachers supervise the lab and train peer tutors to be able to assist students who visit the lab with discussions on how they can become better writers through the editing process.

We have put into practice a co-teaching model for educating our special needs students. Being educated in classrooms with general education peers assures they are introduced to the rigor of the core content, yet they still receive the support and differentiation necessary for a successful school experience. Passaic Valley Regional High School is in the second year of offering an Autism Program on our campus in partnership with Bergen County Special Services. Preparations are underway to implement a Community Based Instruction Model with the students of other classifications in the next school year.

The integration and development of our STEM program includes a STEAM professional learning community for teachers who are committed to developing a
sustainable Garden Lab in the courtyard of Passaic Valley High School. Teachers drive the vision for this project from all areas of STEM, and are working to make this area an outdoor lab for sustainable environmental projects.

The New Jersey Community Development Corporation strengthens and supports our school community by housing a teen center at Passaic Valley. Students are afforded a wide array of opportunities, including community service, personal growth skills, counseling, tutoring, and to build peer relationships that last a lifetime.

Since its inception in 2001 the Passaic Valley Regional High School Education Foundation has been committed to sponsoring and growing opportunities for the community and students at Passaic Valley Regional High School. The Summer Performing Arts Program has become a premier choice for parents to send their children providing art, music, theater and dance programs for students in grades 4 and up. College scholarships are awarded annually to our students.

Athletics and activities are a notable component of our school and traditions. We are constantly assessing our programs and making adjustments to clubs and athletic offerings such that every student can find something to enjoy and participate in during the school year in addition to their academic program.

Passaic Valley Regional High School is home to the Hornets, and Hornet pride is alive and well. Many former students, athletes and alumni continue to have strong ties to the school and return to volunteer, teach, coach or just to ask what they can do to assure that Passaic Valley High School continues to flourish. The Hornet community generously sponsors scholarships for our graduating seniors looking to further their education and or vocational skills. We are grateful for their support and welcome them and their ideas.
